History

Founded in 1906 by Patrick H. Kelley, Charleswood has advanced from 500 acres of farmland into a suburb that’s now home to over 25,000 people. Development of the area increased after the conclusion of the second World War.  

Before 1972, the area was a separate municipality until it joined with the City of Winnipeg. With the meandering Assiniboine River bordering Charleswood, a bridge was erected that connected Charleswood with the neighbouring suburb of St. James-Assiniboia in 1995.

Despite the maturation of the area, many streets in the area have retained its beautiful original atmosphere. Sentinel trees make up the perimeter of the suburb with more than 700 acres of wilderness to explore.
